Beijing Opera is one of the main genres of the Chinese Opera, named after its place of origin. Born, it gained popularity in Beijing and then spread throughout China. Peking Opera is included in the List of intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO and recognized as a national treasure of China. The emergence and development of this genre relates to the XVIII-XIX centuries, In our view, these processes require detailed study. The article considers the origin, development, periods of formation of Beijing Opera, as well as the place of Beijing musical drama in the history of the Chinese Opera of the Qing era.
