The study of the gravitational field of the moon, space probes to Grail

The source of gravity anomalies of the Moon are large mascons with a high mass concentration at a depth of volcanic plains of the lunar Maria. Formation of mascons is connected with intensive development of basaltic volcanism on the Moon in the early periods of its existence. New data on the gravitational field of the Moon were obtained from two American probes Grail spacecrafts. The article presents the data of physical and mechanical properties of the surface soil layer of the lunar Maria and gives an assessment of the chemical composition of the soil. There have been calculated heterogeneity parameters of the surface macro-relief of the lunar Maria and chemical composition of lunar soil. It can be assumed that mascons include rich KREEP rocks with a high content of thorium and iron oxide.
