the present paper contains a basic approach of implementation of information technologies (IT) in service industry. It is demonstrated that IT lead to automation of service and to distant service. Main ways of implementation of automation and distant service are analyzed. Advantages and disadvantages of IT in service industry from the point of view of customers, service providers and society are described
