The significance of agri-food complex (agri-food system) in the global economy has been demonstrated and that the spheres forming it respond to global and regional challenges in terms of confrontation and adaptation to varying degrees. Taking into account the specific role of agriculture for the global agri-food system, the modern and promising role of high-tech alternative focus areas of agricultural production and corresponding market segments (organic, health & wellness, genetically modified food products, and renewable energy sources as well) is demonstrated. The concept of 'structural changes' is revealed. A brief analysis impact factors for structural changes in the global agri-food system is carried out, including technical and technological, environmental and climatic, epidemiological, globalization, demographic (with consumer preferences), geopolitical, as well as factors of state regulation and support. Special emphasis is layed on information and communication technologies (digitalization) as a key factor for structural changes in the global agri-food system. The qualitative and quantitative changes taking place in digitalization of the world economy are analyzed. The main constraints of digitalization in the Russian agri-food system have been revealed. In conclusion, the key problems in the context of factors affecting structural changes in agri-food system of modern Russia are identified and general solutions are proposed.
