PROBLEMS OF OVERCOMING IMPORT DEPENDENCE IN RUSSIAN LIVESTOCK BREEDING

The article is devoted to the problem of overcoming the systemic dependence of Russian commercial animal husbandry on foreign supplies of breeding materials. It is shown that the global animal genetics market is expanding under the influence of food demand and the transition to genomic breeding technology, which involves the accumulation and exchange of information about the genetic properties of animals. The features of the model of Russian livestock breeding, which has been in operation for the last three decades, are revealed. The thesis is substantiated that currently in Russia, with the participation of the state, big business, a number of scientific centers and universities, a new model of organization of livestock breeding activities is being formed. It is shown that the contours of this model are not obvious. However, it is obvious that overcoming import dependence in livestock breeding will require large–scale investments and long-term painstaking efforts of all interested parties, and that the Russian state has begun to solve the task of creating a unified information base for Russian livestock breeding - the most important factor in improving the efficiency of livestock breeding and livestock farming in general.
