The article provides a systematic analysis of the basic research that is devoted to the study of the adaptation potential of individuals living within the Northern Territories of the Far Eastern Federal District. The authors noted the main features of the data obtained, as well as a critical analysis of the methodological apparatus of research. An assessment of the studies of general patterns of human adaptation in the northern regions shows that the compensatory-adaptive, as well as the protective mechanisms of the body are stressogenic in origin and based primarily on the action of a system of nonspecific resistance. Based on the review, the authors come to the conclusion that comprehensive studies are needed, which include the main characteristics of the development of the adaptation potential of the human body. In addition, there are a number of methodological inaccuracies that require a more detailed study of the materials obtained by medical and social research. In addition, it is also necessary to create new models of research on the adaptive capabilities of the human body, which could include the study of various components of the general adaptation of the organism.
