In the conditions of the northern forest-steppe of the Tyumen region, the dynamics of the above-ground phytomass of the living ground cover was studied when changing natural birch forests with culture Scots pine. It was shown that in the third year after clear cutting of birch forests, the mass of herbs increases, compared to birch forests, by more than 2 times (up to 276.53 g /m2), mainly due to species of the families Apiaceae, Asteraceae, Fabaceae and Poaceae. In artificial pine plantations, the total phytomass of herbs and shrubs decreases with increasing pine age, reaching 24.93 g /m2 in 60-year-old cultures. In birch forests, in their clearings and in 15-year-old pine cultures, the main part of phytomass is formed by plants of the first high-altitude substage (61-130 cm), in cultures over 30 years old - plants of the third high-altitude substage (less than 30 cm).
