The archival materials of 6352 patients of the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery of the Kursk Regional Clinical Hospital for 2000-2007 are considered. Clinical data were analyzed to determine the signs of acute respiratory failure according to the classification of D. Skinner (1997). Signs of acute respiratory failure were diagnosed in 119 patients (1.87%). It should be noted that the mixed nature of acute respiratory failure in each specific septic patient is associated with the presence of several mechanisms for the implementation of respiratory failure and a mandatory concomitant factor of intoxication, significant difficulties in the treatment of patients with multiple organ failure, the development of which was provoked by gas exchange disorders.
Keywords:odontogenic infection, respiratory failure, severe complications, purulent process, maxillofacial region.
