The development of diabetes mellitus 2 is associated with obesity. The higher the amount of fat tissue, the higher the insulin resistance. MicroRNAs have a pathophysiological relationship with impaired adipogenesis, inflammation, insulin resistance, and cardiometabolic diseases. Different types of microRNAs are specific for adipose tissue, they influence adipogenesis and the transmission of intracellular signaling pathways. MicroRNAs can act as new biomarkers of diseases, and their expression increases even at preclinical stages. The level of microRNA is stable in the blood and is not affected by environmental factors, and also changes during the treatment of diseases, allowing to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment. The use of microRNA mimetics and inhibitors is a good option for the development of tissue-specific drugs (targeted therapy). This review analyzes the role of miRNAs as regulators of adipogenesis in insulin resistance.
Keywords:genetics, microRNA, type 2 diabetes mellitus, adipogenesis, cardiovascular diseases.
