Sodium-glucose cotransporter type 2 inhibitors are a new class of antidiabetic drugs. These compounds inhibit the activity of the NLRP3 inflammasome. They also reduce the functional activity of immune system cells and the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF, IL-1, IL-6). These drugs reduce the expression of a number of genes associated with the development of inflammation. These effects indicate the presence of an anti-inflammatory effect in sodium-glucose cotransporter type 2 inhibitors.
