The article deals with issues related to the improvement of epidemiological surveillance and control of the incidence of shigellosis in areas with a high activity of the epidemic process. It also summarizes the literature data on regional systems of epidemiological surveillance and control, based on an understanding of the patterns of occurrence and development of epidemic and infectious processes. The Republic of Dagestan is one of the disadvantaged territories of the Russian Federation in terms of the incidence of acute intestinal infections, among which a significant proportion belongs to bacillary dysentery.
