Tardive dyskinesia (TD) is a severe and potentially irreversible movement disorder that can develop as a side effect of long-term use of antipsychotic medications. The study studied the polymorphism of neurotransmitter genes (serotonin, muscarinic and adrenergic) receptors, which hypothetically may play a role in the development of antipsychotic-induced TD and its phenotypically different subtypes in patients with schizophrenia. It has been shown that the rs2036108 allelic variant of the ADRA1A gene is involved in the formation of the genetic component of the development of the mixed subtype of drug-induced TD in patients with schizophrenia.

Keywords:schizophrenia, mixed subtype of tardive dyskinesia, neurotransmitter receptors, gene polymorphism.
