Until recently, the uterus of a healthy woman was considered an environment devoid of microorganisms. Research in recent years has shown that the female upper genital tract contains a diverse community of bacteria, albeit in small numbers. There is evidence of a connection between the characteristics of the endometrial microbiota and various gynecological diseases and reproductive disorders. The microbial composition of the uterine cavity may be associated with the development of endometrial hyperplasia and its malignant progression. This review examines current knowledge about the characteristics of the uterine microbiota and their relationship with endometrial hyperplasia.
