Automation and robotics have revolutionized industrial processes, making them more efficient, accurate and flexible. The integration of automation and robotics into production has become a key factor in the development of modern industry. The ability to improve quality, reduce staff errors and increase production speed has made these concepts indispensable for various industries. Moreover, automation and robotics are becoming especially relevant in the era of Industry 4.0, where smart manufacturing and electronics play a crucial role. With the involvement of a large number of domestic and foreign publications, the current state of automation and robotics, their application, current limitations and future prospects in the context of improving industrial processes in order to increase efficiency are considered. To highlight the research topic from a practical point of view, the concept of a digital double is presented. Further, using a real example of an existing industrial welding problem, the solution of a specific task of increasing the efficiency of a real industrial process is considered and appropriate estimates are given.
