The paper deals with the concepts of altruism and hedonism embedded in the system structure of the personality as value orientations. Depending on the degree of expression of these qualities in the psychological type, we can talk about the nature and professional orientation of the person. The work is not an empirical study and is theoretical in nature. For the first time the gradation of altruism and hedonism on macro and micro levels is introduced. Having studied the methods to identify the motivational and value sphere of personality, as well as literary sources on the topic, the author comes to the conclusion that altruism or hedonism can not only manifest itself in its pure form as a value, but also be combined with each other with different degrees of intensity. The degree of expression of these qualities in an individual is influenced by education, education, media, traditions, mentality and the overall economic situation in society. G. Gurdjieff and P. Uspenski has identified 9 personality types in nine of the dominant fears in the personality structure. B. N. Ryzhov, L. B. Smolovskaya with M-8 test distinguish motivational and value sphere of personality. S. Schwartz identifies 10 personality profiles using the leading type of value orientation. Survey of E. A. Tatarintsev, V. I. Rogacheva examines the manifestations of selfishness, and altruism in youth in four areas. Based on the above research, the author comes to the conclusion that altruism and hedonism are organic formations in the structure of a person's personality and affect not only his life activity, but also his choice of his direction of professional development
