This article contains a brief overview of some evidence based psychotherapeutic approaches that are recommended as the first lines of therapeutic intervention for post–traumatic stress disorder - a disorder diagnostically associated with a delayed, non-specific response to trauma. The article also highlights the role of negative cognitions as one of the central lines of work with trauma in the selected methods of therapy, identifies the main features of the organization and conduct of psychotherapy, and also outlines non-specific symptoms and complaints of people with childhood trauma history, as an additional opportunity to identify its possible delayed consequences, latent and chronic forms of post-traumatic disorders, often not associated with the actual severe status and current disadaptation.
