THE EARLY PERIOD OF JAZZ SAXOPHONE DEVELOPMENT IN CHINA

The article explores the development of jazz saxophone in China in the 1920s-1940s. The author identifies the role of foreign musicians and the first Chinese band leader Jimmy King. The reasons for the ambivalent perception of the saxophone by Chinese society, as well as the subsequent wartime restrictions, are established.
