Based on the identified material, the role of Kazakh folk culture as the basis of the national idea is considered. The cultural approach allows us to focus on the typological aspects of the national idea of the Kazakhs, where its basis is largely the Kazakh folk culture. The study shows that the early Kazakh idea, continuing the traditions of its predecessors, declares itself as an experience of the immortality of its culture. The Kazakh idea in various historical eras, while preserving its archetypal core, received different expressions. The idea was reflected in the works of Ch. Valikhanov, I. Altynsarin, A. Kunanbayev. In its most complete form, the national idea was formulated in the works of Abai.
