The article discusses the problems of translating English abbreviations into Russian. The relevance of studying the issues of translating English abbreviations into Russian is substantiated. The duality of the structure of the abbreviation is noted. It has been revealed that the translation of English abbreviations into Russian is a labor-intensive process of searching for an equivalent in the target language and achieving adequacy of the translation. It has been determined that the most difficult problems of translating abbreviations in scientific, technical and medical terminology include the continuing trend towards saving language resources, processes of homonymy, inclusion of a missing letter in an abbreviation, inappropriate abbreviations used in different versions, truncation of a word or the creation of an abbreviation - a syllable. It is concluded that the methods of translating English abbreviations into Russian, taking into account the identified difficulties, include: transliteration, transcription, complete borrowing in the original form, descriptive translation, translation of the English abbreviation with a complete phrase.
