Stages of implementation of grade point average system for the estimation at the university practice

This paper discusses problem of estimating the level of development of competencies by grade point average system means. There is presented historical aspect of the implementation of the system in the educational environment in different countries. Stages of its implementation by Russian universities are defined and exemplified based on an analysis of existing approaches.
