The article dwells on the data based on the origin, formation and development of the historical school in Ryazan, based on the experience of the Department of History of Ryazan State University named after S.A.Yesenin. Its development is closely connected with the progress in higher education in the area. The most prominent scientists, who contributed the formation of the University historical school, are referred to. The article also contains a review of basic trends of development in scientific research both at present time and in the past.
