Travel writings of the late 18th - first half of 19th century as a historical source about Kerch: thematic aspect

The article presents the result of systematization and analysis of works of Russian and foreign travelers (memoirs, letters, diaries, biographies) containing descriptions of Kerch and its environs of the late 18th – the first half of the 19th century. Traveler’s notes due to a difficulty of determining their genre stay uncharted topic in the scientific world. The current level of scientific development of the question about the role and value of traveler’s notes for the Kerch’s history remains low. The author has identified the key aspects of the historical past of Kerch and its surrounding area on which the attention of travelers of the late 18th – the first half of the 19th century was concentrated.
