In the article views of representatives of the Kazan linguistic school and the Prague linguistic circle on crucial problems of linguistics are analyzed. The aim of this paper is to compare their approaches to the study of the language. In program guidelines of both unions some similar moments are traced, a fact of the methodological influence of Kazan scholars’ ideas on works of Prague linguists has been especially underlined. The positions of two schools are compared in the examination of a socio-psychological nature of the language and the suitability of using synchronic, diachronic, onomasiological and semasiological methods for the investigations of linguistic facts. As a result of research a continuity of theories of the Kazan school of I.A. Baudouin de Courtenay and V.A. Bogoroditsky in ideas of V. Mathesius and his circle has been revealed.
