The article deals with certain aspects of the foundation and functioning of educational institutions in rural settlements in the Laishevsky County of Kazan province in the second half XIX - early XX centuries, which later joined the Laishevo region of the Tatarstan Republic. Teaching programs, issues of material provision of schools and teaching staff are studied and analysed. Special attention is paid to the organization of educational institutions for the baptized Tatars and Tatar Muslims.
