Social comparison tactics in German and Russian diari discourse

This article deals with the functioning of social comparison tactics in the personal diaries discourse. Being one of the tactics within self-identification strategy, this tactics proves to be based on the cognitive mechanism of social comparison. The major linguistic elements of expressing the social comparison tactics are identified in A. Schnitzler’s and K. I. Chukovsky’s diaries. It is concluded that this tactics can be verbalized either by the direct description of himself in comparison with Another, or by the description of qualities of Another.
