The semantic types of predicates in the English language

The given article is devoted to the semantic description of predicates in the works of Russian and foreign scientists. The urgency of this problem is explained by great interest to the verbal semantics in linguistic works of the recent years. It can be explained by the fact that verb is the most complicated part of speech, which plays a central, sense-building role in the sentence. The aim of the article is the critical analysis of the most famous classifications of predicates in the works of the modern linguists. Besides, the article helps to build the taxonomy of the semantic types of sentences in the English language on the basis of the investigated classifications.
