Anti-Soviet uprising in western Dagestan in 1920-1921: a brief historiographical review

The article is devoted to one of the most urgent and complex problems in the science of history of Dagestan – the characterization and analysis of the sources and literature relating to controversial period in the history of the civil war: anti-Soviet uprising in Western Dagestan in 1920-1921. This uprising, like the last stage of the civil war in Dagestan, and to this day attracts the attention of researchers and the General public, in connection with which an objective approach to the available sources are adequate and their evaluation are very important to explore the causes, course and consequences of the performances of the highlanders against the Soviets in the period under review. The author points out the importance of studying this topic, which, in the modern period, when large-scale political, socio-economic, ideological, and cultural changes in our country and in light of the identification of new instruments and reinterpreting available materials on this issue, needs some adjustment. When writing this article, the authors draw on a wide range of sources and literature, which reflected different assessments of participants and contemporaries of the anti-Soviet uprising. Also particularly interested in scientific papers on this subject as domestic researchers and foreign, which can be traced partly opposite trends in the characterization and analysis of the events of the civil war in Dagestan.
