This article is devoted to the analysis of the quantitative and typological characteristics for the morphonological subsystem of the Ottoman language. Formal calculations of the recognized Ottoman and modern Turkish texts (Namık Kemal’s novel "The Adventures of Ali Bey or Precaution» («Sergüzeşt-i Ali Bey, veya İntibah», published in 1876) have been made for this analysis. The number of Arab-Persian lexical and grammatical borrowings in the Ottoman language at the beginning of the XX century exceeded 75% in the area of vocabulary. This sharply separate layer of vocabulary and service morphemes functioned under the special rules. The usage of it by speakers had much in common with the usage of a foreign language, i.e. foreign-language tokens did not submit Turkic phonological and morphonological laws. Counting of morphonological index made it possible to formalize some signs of this agglutinative language. In addition, the analysis showed the degree of compliance of two texts to primordially Turkic phonological and morphonological laws. The mixed nature of the language, the presence of elements borrowed from the inflected languages complicate the perception of texts in the Ottoman language by modern speakers. The results obtained in the process of analyzing the indices have provided quantification of these processes. This article is one of a series of publications in the framework of the project on the development of the Turkish language in a historical perspective.
