The article dwells upon the possibility of measuring the deictic subcompetence of translation competence. The necessity of estimating external social and internal psychological categories provides us with understanding that only interlingual profession-oriented training and coaching of translators and interpreters can guarantee the deictic subcompetence development. The authors consider definitions of such notions as “model of translation competence”, its subcompetences, “deixis”, general classification of deictic units. A quite particular and specific aspect of training and coaching translators and interpreters is dealt with, that is the demanded development of the deictic subcompetence. It is seen as possible through applying exercises aimed at developing the skills and competence of distinguishing and using deictic lingual units while translation practicing.
