SOCAR oil contracts in the 1990s. Their historic and economic features

The article is dedicated to energetic policy of Azerbaijan in the 1990s. It reveals reasons for an interest of foreign companies in signing contracts in the Caspian region where a price of the possible victory justifies a risk of a failure in exploration of major oil fields. It analyzes conditions for contractors, as well as signed contracts – early, stabilized, and tendered ones. It sets arguments by opponents of making deals and compares arguments of the opposition in Russia and Azerbaijan against oil contracts of those times.
