In the article devoted to the great satirist, in the background during the second half of the nineteenth century analyzes his journalistic activities. The estimation of the consummate skill of an outstanding artist of words. Marked "paradox" of the relationship in his works of such phenomena as the magnitude of the pull of the epic and "etude", which became part of the unified ideological and thematic plan and purchased the form of cycles. In the analysis of works of M. E.
