Napoleon III`s first visit to Algeria

The article deals with the reasons and the consequences of Napoleon III`s first visit to Algeria in September 1860. Antagonism between military and civil power, the problem of coexistence between settlers and indigenes, the land issue – needed to be resolved. Emperor`s voyage has had an influence on the further colonial policy.
