Artistic originality of novell B. Gart " Pagan Wan Lee " and M. Twena "Letter of china"

This article proposes a comparative study of the novels of B. Harte "Pagan Wan Lee» and M. Twain "Letters Chinese." Background of the writing of these works, and also the history of friendship between B. Harte and M. Twain are briefly presented. A comparative analysis of the composition, genre, creative method, artistic methods of creating the main and minor characters of these works is carried out. Their common and specific features are revealed. It is concluded that, despite some differences, the works show the main artistic features characteristic of the genre of the American novel.
