English in scientific work of a university lecturer

It is difficult to imagine a modern university professor without knowledge of English as the international language of science. This knowledge provides him/her the access to the latest research in the field of own scientific interests, promotes the results of research and their evaluation by the international scientific community. In turn, foreign scholars obtain the opportunity to get acquainted with the results of the national science development. Unfortunately, Russian scientists still do not sufficiently pay attention to their English-language publication activities in reputable international journals, underestimate the importance of the English language and scientometric indices in their activities. In addition, many domestic scientific journals are issued only in the Russian version. The analysis of the causes of the current situation and ways of solving the existing problems in this area are in the focus of this article.
