GIS-mapping of the forest cover of the Vologda region in the second half of the 19th century

The results of the application of computer methods in historical and geographical research are presented in this article. This work has a scientific and practical character. "A special map of European Russia" IA. Strelbitsky in the 1870s, served as the main source for this study. The map sheets displaying the territory of Olonets, Vologda, Novgorod and Yaroslavl provinces were used. Mapping of forests of the Vologda region in the second half of the 19th century. on a detailed scale was carried out for the first time. It was implemented in the program NextGIS QGIS. Given the small anthropogenic impact on the forest cover of the region during the XIX century. This map can be used to study the territory of the Vologda region of an earlier time.
