The organization of process of training of mathematics in the Russian gymnasium throughout the second half of the 19th century underwent considerable changes. In this article on the basis of the analysis of dissertation researches, monographs, collections of documents and memoirs of pupils three main stages of development of didactics of mathematics during the period investigated by us have been allocated and analysed: 1) 50th years; 2) 60th years and 3) 70-90th years. Characteristic features and approaches are peculiar to each of these periods and the material collected in this article can be useful as to historians of pedagogics, methodologists, and ordinary teachers of mathematics, persons interested to improve process of training at modern school.
