By studying the history of the Tuvan vocalism

The article is devoted to the review of scientific works of Turkologists, linguists-typologists and dialectologists who studied the system of Tuvan vocalism at different times and with different methods. Attention is paid to fundamental works on Tuvan phonetics, beginning with the first descriptions made by V.V. Radlov (F.Radloff) and finishing with the results of experimental studies of Tuvan vowels. The general and specific features in the structural organization of vowel phonemes systems are revealed, many serious unsolved problems in the vocalism of the Tuvan language are identified.
