About some distinctive features of the terra family of words in modern Portuguese

Significant volume of a natural language vocabulary urges linguists structure and organize lexis, describe relations existing between different words, make generalizations. Investigations in the sphere of word-formation, especially the analysis of the big families of words, can play a significant role in this process. This article is devoted to the study of the set of words the family headed by the polysemous Portuguese noun terra. The conducted analysis allowed to structure the derivatives and reveal some of their special features, as well as to touch upon the certain aspects of the Portuguese lexicography.
