The article tackles upon Japanese syllabary genesis raised under the influence of Chinese logography, regarding the process as prototypical from the point of view of syllabary genesis and development. The Japanese writing system is still in its active phase of development, at the same time demonstrating certain type of rigidness. It is helpful to make use of Japanese syllabary for the research of logography-syllabary transition in general. Syllabary genesis can also be easily analyzed using the Japanese language, as it incorporates two independent processes of syllabary creation based on different graphic methods, influenced by writing needs of the historical period. The long peaceful co-existence of Japanese syllabary system with logography leading to no inner problems, can be regarded as one of the most important advantages for scientific research. The next aspect of grammatology under special discussion is obviously the graphic form, which can be easily researched with the help of the Japanese language. Hiragana and katakana differ greatly from the point of view of compiling methods and graphics, providing exclusive advantge for the Japanese language researches. Syllabaries, phonetically nearly equal, continue to save their influence and tend to show much difference in prospective usage.
