The article discusses some aspects of the study and the linguistic status of the professional sublanguage of the oil industry in Russian and English. Describes the properties and carried out the systematization of tacit and codified units of oil sublanguage. The importance of multi-aspect comparative study of non-codified units of thesaurus of Russian and English variants of the considered professional sublanguage is emphasized.
