The article is devoted to the consideration of the cognitive features of the fable text, as well as the lexical representation of frame structures in literary fables. Currently, the study of frame structures in texts of various genres remains relevant. The purpose of the article is to consider the cognitive features of fables and to identify the specifics of their implementation in the texts of fables of modern American authors. The research is based on texts of literary tales of such authors as James Thurber and William Saroyan: two collections of J. Thurber “Fables for Our Time” and “Further Fables for Our Time” and a collection of W. Saroyan “Saroyan's Fables”. The authors of the article singled out six main frames characteristic of the text of the fable, which are verbally represented by language means at different levels. The results of the study allowed to identify dominant and peripheral frames in the cognitive structure of the fables.
