This work addresses the history of the creation of the dictionary of the basic French language Français fondamental and considers it as the first standardizing document in French linguodidactics. Correlation with the general European trends in teaching foreign languages, the introduction and filling of such a concept as communicative competence, the design of the contour exercises for situational interaction (interaction), the concept of a random passer-by, which was further developed in European competencies, the thematic principle of organizing vocabulary largely paved the way for creating CECRL. Conscious simplification of the language in order to expand the potential audience and a change in the linguodidactic paradigm marks an important period in the formation, development and institutionalization of such a discipline as FLE or French as a foreign language. Finally, the principles of lexical selection used in the creation of the lexical minimum of the Français fondamental and the introduction, in particular, the concepts of disponibilité, allow us to approach the issue of arranging vocabulary as a result of institutional selection and control. It seems important to us to emphasize that such voluminous layers as the place of Français fondamental in the general space of linguistic thought and lexicography remained outside the scope of our consideration.
