The work touches upon the use of role-playing gaming technologies in the practice of foreign educational systems from 1950 to 2021. Specific examples of game learning in Europe and the USA are given, including the use of non-adapted computer games. It traces how the elements of role-playing games began to be transferred from virtual reality to educational practice. The experience of educational institutions that have completely switched to the game method of teaching is described. It is emphasized that both traditional live action role-playing games and computer games are used for teaching and upbringing of children. As a result, a conclusion is made about the effectiveness of the use of gaming technologies in the educational process as a separate method built into the existing education system, and as a basis for creating a completely new educational approach exclusively in a game form. The work uses foreign sources that do not have an official translation.
