The relevance of the question stated in the article is due to the fact that the problem of translating a poetic text has been and remains one of the least developed in the theory of the literary translation. The lack of generally accepted criteria for assessing the adequacy and equivalence of poetic translation allows for analysis to select translation strategies and tactics. The purpose of the article is to show the solution to the problems: a translated poetic text should not violate the numerous laws of a given language and come into conflict with its rhythmic, phonic and metaphorical systems, since otherwise, even if there are literal coincidences with the original, the translation will still be remain inadequate. One of the key issues in the translation of poetry is to recreate the integrity of the original in the translated text. This study aims to create a theory of poetic translation based on the linguistics of the poetic text.
Keywords:translation of a poetic text, translation strategies and tactics, style of the author's language, the adequacy and equivalence of translation.
