The article shows the process of finding an industrial base for tank production. The interest of the Soviet leadership in the emergence of tank factories is shown. By the beginning of the 1930s, as a result of large efforts, industrial enterprises were identified. All of them had experience before the Revolution and were the only manufacturers of Soviet tanks up to 1941.
