The Shadowing Technique as a Method of Linguistic Competence Development at a Faculty of Foreign Languages

The Shadowing technique of teaching pronunciation has acquired enormous acclaim as a method of individual or self-education. The article explores its prospects and potentiality as a language skills development technology in classroom teaching. The method under investigation implies detailed text study as well as its thorough exploration at all language levels. The author dwells upon the criteria for choosing a suitable text for analysis, and suggests a strategy to work upon it. Furthermore, the article provides a variety of techniques for studying an audiotext in the framework of the Shadowing system.
