The conditions determining and shaping the modern language situation in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) should include the change in the status of the Yakut language, ethnopolitical, demographic and ethno-cultural factors, under the influence of which there is a change in the language situation in the post-Soviet period. In this regard, the research of the functioning of the Yakut language as the state language, interethnic communication, as well as the problems of the linguistic identity of the Yakuts is updated, which is what this article is devoted to. It would be premature to talk about any completeness of the search for an optimal paradigm for studying ethnicity, the processes taking place in the life of ethnic groups, understanding their nature, status, and interaction with each other. But what has been done here also gives grounds for optimism to researchers studying the diverse forms of identity manifestation at the regional level.
Keywords:linguistic identity, ethnic identity, national identity, republican sovereignty.
