The purpose of the study is to show that the issue of transmitting the syntactic features of the original is solved differently by translators, but at the same time, general trends can be traced in different language cultures. The article reveals similarities and differences in translation solutions, ways of preserving syntactic parameters of the 66th Sonnet of W. Shakespeare by Russian and Italian translators who worked in different eras. 37 Russian and 14 Italian texts were studied. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that the translations of the English sonnet into two different languages are compared, while syntactic features are studied in detail, which are no less important in a lyrical work than lexical content. The results obtained showed that translators generally retain the syntactic aspects of the original in translations, but often allow significant deviations from the author's intention, which may be caused by unconsciously following earlier translations.
Keywords:translation of poetry, sonnet 66, W. Shakespeare, original, syntax.
