The appeal to the historical genre of German writers of the 30s and 40s was an undoubted reaction to the fascist dictatorship and the first understanding of the tragedy that befell Germany. The article shows various directions within the genre: from creating the image of a "positive" leader of the state and depicting the country's development prospects from humanistic positions to the satirical exposure of an outstanding historical figure and the idea of heroism.
