The article examines the main historical stages of the development of educational literature on art education in Russia in the XIX – early XX century. The analysis of sources devoted to the study of trends in the formation of the textbook is carried out. Views on the essence of the textbook, its influence on the content and methodology of teaching and how they changed in the process of social development are presented. Thanks to these textbooks, students were able to get acquainted with the basics of the laws of fine art. The article examines the historical circumstances of the appearance of textbooks on fine art; their subject matter and content; their place in the education of this period.
The interpretations of the textbook and the textbook, their specific features are determined.
This material aims to comprehend the problem of a school textbook on fine arts from the perspective of a new understanding of the goals of education. Opportunities for spiritual and moral development of the individual, education of aesthetic and patriotic feelings and the right life orientation.
